Yankee Candle Company was founded by Mike Kittredge. Kittredge was only sixteen years old, when he made his own candle for his mother on Christmas in 1969. Candle making was his hobby. In 1973, his hobby turned into business and he constructed Yankee Candle Company in Massachusetts, USA. In 1998, the company formed a partnership with Forstmann Little & Co. of New York.
